Shivharsh Kisan P. G. College, Basti is a leading educational institution of Eastern Uttar Pradesh affiliated with Siddhartha University, Kapilvastu, Siddharth Nagar. Located at the headquarter of Basti commissionary, near the holy river Kuwano. The college was established at a particular juncture of the history of Poorvanchal, when the area was suffering from the scarcity of educational institution in general. As an influential and veteran leader Pandit Shivharsh Upadhyaya felt the need of an institution for higher education. As a great Karmyogi & visionary he dreamed of a Kisan college with its motto, “अस्ति रत्नागमनस्य” (Let gems come) to assimilate diverse ideas, people and beliefs into its academic life, and materialized it by the sheer force of his will in the year 1959. After his unfortunate and untimely demise, his first name “Shivharsh” was attached with the name of the college. The college is administered presently by District Magistrate, Basti, as the authorized controller. The College campus is situated in the prime location of the Basti city, adjacent to Horticulture Department in a lavish green environment.
With a glorious history in the past, Shivharsh Kisan P. G. College has reached new heights of quality education in the field of higher studies. The college made a steady progress and it is engaged in teaching UG and PG courses in both science & arts as a premier institute since 1972. At present the college offers teaching programmes leading to B.A., B.Sc. (Bio/Math), M.A. (Hindi, Economics, Geography, Sociology & English), M.Sc. (Mathematics, Zoology & Botany), and Ph.D. programme is available in almost all the P.G subjects. Many of the departments have published several research papers in research journals of National and International repute.
The institution occupies a special status in the region and is well known for its unique identity, as the college breeds on moral footing, democratic functionary, non-commercial approach, social commitments, excellent faculty, rich library, good research base and social orientation. The institution aims at imparting quality education to meet new challenges at national and international level. At the core of the institution is the goal of nurturing the spirit of research and innovation for the coming generation.
